Is having a primarily fish diet bad?

Hello,

I am fifteen years of age and for the last four years I have had a diet that primarily consists of fish.

I consume no red meat but I eat lots of vegetables.

An average day for me would be:

No breakfast except for a cup of tea.

Lunch would be some Sushi or a piece of fish and a bottle of water

Dinner would be fish and vegetables.

And this has been the same for the past few years, so I was wondering what effects this would of had on my body. My Mum is constantly trying to persuade me to eat meat however I refuse.

Eating lots of oily fish can be very beneficial to your brain development as fish are rich in omega 3. However, you need to eat more of a varied diet.

If you don't like meat then that's fine, there are other alternatives containing protein, e.g. Quorn products such as tofu or Quorn sausages. The other advantages of eating Quorn are that they are low in fat and contain zero cholesterol. For more information go to www.quorn.co.uk.

The vegetables are very healthy but make sure you vary the type of vegetables; this can be done in accordance with the seasons in order to make sure they are fresh and locally produced.

For breakfast you should at least have a piece of fruit if you can't stomach anything else so early as breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Generally the healthiest guide is to have a big breakfast, a medium lunch, a small dinner and healthy snacks such as fruit in between.

You could also do with introducing more carbohydrates into your diet such as bread and pasta as they slowly release energy throughout the day allowing you to be able to do more strenuous activity such as sport.

Similarly, the occasional chocolate bar isn't so bad:)

    Hi

She is correct. You should eat more. First rule is never to skip breakfast!! Your body needs to replenish and is the most important meal of the day.

Cutting red meat is not big deal. But do you eat dairy products like yoghurt or milk or cheese? They are important (unless you are allergic and can not have them)

Do you eat anything between breaks or is your diet as spartan as it looks?

The most important thing is a balance in what you eat and seems to me it is unbalanced.

Plus when you are growing teenager you need more calories than you seem to be eating.

I am no specialist but in doubt go to a nutrionist.

Eating too much fish can result in mercury poisoning! This is why pregnant women are advised not to consume it at all. Avoid eating fish more than a few times a week at most. If you want more protein try replacing fish with beans sometimes.

It's not a lack of meat I'd be worried about - eat more veg! Plenty of vegetarians (such as myself) get by just fine without fish or meat, but we NEED to eat a variety of foods to keep calories up. Neglecting veg is always going to be bad news broski

i've got been discovering this comparable question myself for some weeks now, indexed decrease than are some factors: - the quantity of mercury is in accordance with fish species and the place they're caught - Farm fish normally has larger mercury than wild caught fish. it truly is because of the fact mercury is everywhere. Inland water streams tend to pay interest the an infection mutually as the super extensive ocean has a tendency to dilute it. - Species is the largest ingredient. interior of a given species, region is 2nd, yet information isn't consistent: reckoning on the internet internet site, wild fish caught off California reportedly have the backside mercury or the optimal mercury while in comparison with different places international extensive. - in accordance to clinical examine, fats fish produce greater wellbeing reward in quite experiments than lean fish - utilising a calorie and nutrition tracker utility, i spotted than on intense-fish days (e.g. fish for lunch and dinner) i will finally end up ingesting too lots protein - tremendously if I had a intense-protein breakfast. greater effective to plot forward with a intense-carb low-protein breakfast subsequently to stability issues out.
