  • On the Captains yoke in a 737 what is this thing?

On the Captains yoke in a 737, there are two sides.

The left side of the yoke is for the trim wheel and manual trimming of the aircraft, however what is the box for on the right hand side with the numbers in it?

I've been interested in aviation since I was five years old and have never discovered what the devil it's for.

So any answers will of course be very appreciated!

  • FSX on Windows 7 Issues...can someone please help to resolve.?

I recently installed Windows Flight Simulator X on Windows 7.

The P.C. is a 32-bit operating system with: 2.20 GHz and 1.00GB RAM.

I am an aircraft enthusiast and recently brought Flight Simulator.

I did all the installation set-up as per advised by the computer and now, every time I click, the following message pops up: " The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect."

I'm not very up on computers and i'm not prepared to spend quantities of money by dragging it to the chaps at PCWorld.

    Thanks.

  • I've annoyed a chap in a simulator.?

At my father's work there is a B737 facility that includes a simulator.

As it is Sunday nobody uses the simulator and it was not booked therefore my father asked a training Captain whether he would show me the ropes as he would hate to think I would be flying turboprops.

So we were on our final approach into EGBB as we were performing a simple circuit.

He handed control to me 15nm DME away and because I'm one of these people who likes simplicity the night before I'd decided to get the ILS information and still on autopilot I put it into the Nav 1 radio and with the EFIS set to the correct setting.

I looked for some reason to the left and saw his suddenly angered face and I thought what's his problem so we got the minimums and I made a great landing but when we left he didn't say a word until I heard him raising his voice shouting 'He think he's ******* clever using the ILS does he?

So please what do you think may have angered him.

  • What happened to First Officer Allan Rattigan?

The other day me and my father were sat in our kitchen reminiscing from his time as an Engineer with Virgin Atlantic and he was pondering what had happened to Allan Rattigan?

He can distinctly remember him as being one of the nicer chaps on the 747-400 fleet at Virgin Atlantic and he was wondering where ever did he go to or whether he remained with VA after my father left.

And for more information to yourselves my father left VA in 2002 and moved to his current employer Thomson Airways.

Thanks for the answer they'd be much appreciated.

  • Is having a primarily fish diet bad?

    Hello,

I am fifteen years of age and for the last four years I have had a diet that primarily consists of fish.

I consume no red meat but I eat lots of vegetables.

An average day for me would be:

No breakfast except for a cup of tea.

Lunch would be some Sushi or a piece of fish and a bottle of water

Dinner would be fish and vegetables.

And this has been the same for the past few years, so I was wondering what effects this would of had on my body. My Mum is constantly trying to persuade me to eat meat however I refuse.

  • Why don't BMI Baby buy some 737-800/700?

I recently flew with BMI Baby in fact me an my mum are frequent fliers with the airline jetting off to various places and the time has come I believe that they ought to buy some new aircraft.

I want to be a pilot myself and I have quite a few flying hours here and their whether that be as a passenger or flying in my Stepfathers Cessna 172 and I have realised that indeed their 737/300 series is ready for the hallowed ground. We started flying with them about three years ago and I have seen a decline in the upkeep of the aircraft.

The last flight that we went on was from Manchester (EGCC)- Jersey (EGJJ) and the aircraft in question was awful.

To begin with, the amount of noise being emitted was truly deafening and the level of vibration was unlike anything I have ever experienced.

The wings were black with soot and dirt and the suspension was awful, upon landing everybody violently jerked forwards and the spoilers slowly crept upwards as if they no longer had the will to live.

So I wish that now they're owned by Lufthansa they would at least get a fleet improvement even if it's just the 700/800 series I would be very happy.

  • Why are people scared of the deceased?

I have been working with death since I was very little, in fact I have been dealing with the deceased relatives of people since I was 4 years of age. We are a family of Undertakers with our business for some 20 years and in that time I have seen people become increasingly more fearful of the sight of the deceased, despite the fact that they're generally presented in a manner that makes them appear to be alive or alive to some extent.

Is it perhaps the shifting social attitudes toward death and the way in which we deal with it or is death slowly becoming a tabooed subject?

Please provide me with some serious answers.

  • Do you like the Spitting Image song 'Never met a nice South African'?

The other evening whilst trawling through some of my mums Spitting Image DVD's I encountered a song called 'Never met a nice South African.' The lyrics are to be honest very funny indeed and in traditional Spitting Image fashion take the Michael out of the Apartheid rule in South Africa.

Please watch and give me some of your opinions:

  • Do you think Dog the Bounty hunter and his 'crew' would come after me if I openly called them inbred?

Essentially, the other evening I was sat there in front of the television here in good old Blighty when all of a sudden, a bearded gentleman who looked remarkably like a gypsy and who wasn't Bin Laden or Jesus began to run around the place looking for what he calls a 'fugitive.' They then arrest the suspect, or more to the point his son 'Leland' who to be quite frank looks like a character out of Avatar. They then all have a big prayer like some sort of congregation and then go home to their big house. Whereby his wife who to be honest looks like she's 96% silicone is there.

So do you think he is now going to come across the Atlantic hunt me down with his family or clan and paintball gun me?.......I don't think so.

Please people give your opinions and I don't care what you say, no thumbs down either you people as all opinions are valued and the best and funniest one will get guess what...............10 Points!

  • Who is the biggest idiot at the moment in the airline industry?

I'm sick of going by air at the moment, no it's not because I have travel sickness it's because the airline industry is severely ****** up at the moment. So I wish to ask you peoples of Yahoo who at the moment is the biggest idiot in a certain percentage of the airline industry:

    1. Willie Walsh the company director of British Airways who clearly has left them for dead and will charge you £500.00 for the privilege of working for him.

    2. Michael O'Leary the money grabbing airline magnate who currently is the CEO of every bodies favourite: Ryanair. He runs an organisation that quite frankly on a scale of hatred fits in with such others as Al'Qaeda and the Zimbabwean Government.

And now for the airlines, please vote:

    1. Ryanair

    2. British Airways

    3. Jet2.com

    4. Easyjet

    5. Flybe

Please enter both of these details as I will be using them for my business studies project. The best answer will get......10 Points!

  • Sick of hearing Bombardier Dash 8-Q400?

People who live in the area of Chesterfield, Derbyshire or anyone who lives in England.

Aren't you sick of hearing the sound of a Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 flying over your head every five minutes.

I live on a flight path to Manchester and Doncaster and I was sat there the other night and I counted about 6 Dash's all operated by 'Flybe.'

I swear to god they are the most irritating sounds known to man, who else has this issue?

  • Pilots out there, what would this mean?

    Hello,

I have been flying now with my stepfather in his Cirrus for some time therefore I have a relatively good understanding of flight, however I am not entirely sure about something on a jet aircraft.

If on a B737 or a B757 there was something on the EICAS that said it had a High n1 yet a low n2 and the EPR was increased, then what would this mean or would those circumstances be somewhat impossible.

  • A poll with an aviation twist.?

Essentially I am doing a little project to determine exactly what people around the world would rather have as their Airline.

    So here they are:

In England: British Airways, BMI, BMI Baby, Ryanair, Flybe, Jet2.com, Virgin Atlantic

In Europe: Air France, Aeroflot, Lufthansa, KLM or Any of the Above.

In America: American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, JetBlue, Virgin America or any of the above.

    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Any BMI Baby Pilots out there that can give me some information.?

I'd like to ask what is it like nowadays that you're under Lufthansa and being ruled by Wolfgang Prock-Schauer. I got told that you were being treat not particularly well and would like to know what exactly it is like now.

P.S. I am considering getting a career with you if you're still running when I've done pilot training.

  • Do you agree with this.?

I think that these manoeuvres would be good to be seen on a B737 in Ryanair livery (Bastards).

    1. Pugachev's Cobra.

    2. Alpha Max

    3. Barrel Roll 360 Degree

    4. Cuban Eight

    5. Immelmann

    6. Lomcovak

I would be stupid enough and suicidal enough to attempt these manoeuvres and I would like your opinions on the level of coolness.
