Yahoo Answers is shutting down on 4 May 2021 (Eastern Time) and the Yahoo Answers website is now in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

I asked a question in the geography section about a fellow user with multiple accounts. Should it be deleted?

As a regular answerer in Geography, I recently became aware that one user, Carly, was often getting best answer by up to 8 votes, and usually at least six; such a high volume is not normal for the geography section.

I posed the following question; of the 12 responses, six agreed with me:

Anyone else sick of giving answers only for Carly to mysteriously be voted best answerer by about 8 votes?

But Yahoo Answers, as usually, seems more interested in enforcing its anti-Free Speech regime, and isn't bothered about people ruining its reputation and the fairness of the site.

Opinions please...

I saw someone who was also cheating with over 50 other accounts. Not only were they cheating, but they were also a Top Reporter (meaning they spend all day reporting people's questions and answers). When they started reporting my answers, I appealed the violation and told Yahoo that this person is cheating and it's not fair that Yahoo isn't doing anything about it just because the person is a Top Reporter. Do you know what Yahoo did? They suspended my account.

This is not a fair website. If you tell Yahoo that Carly is cheating, and Carly is a Top Reporter they will suspend your account. I know, it doesn't make sense but the people who run this website do whatever they want and they don't really care if someone cheats as long as they report people all day.

We've got one like that in the Genealogy category too, always gets BA with an abnormal number of votes, also plagiarises other people's answers and votes for herself so the person who actually wrote the answer is cheated of BA. I used to be a Top Contributor in Genealogy but I couldn't compete with that and lost my badge.

Unfortunately, posting the question you quote would be a violation of the Community Guidelines - we are not allowed to call out other users in public. You would do better to message the other regulars in Geography privately about it.

I would suggest writing to Yahoo with a few examples of questions where she has cheated, but it didn't do me much good - the cheater is still there, still cheating. People like that spoil the site for the conscientious members

  • These cheaters and burglars are so usual at Y/A that I got used to them and they don't bother me anymore.

I think your question is fair and so won't be deleted.

Yep, I agree, those cheaters really get me on my nerves too
