No sound coming from my laptop?

I have checked the speakers on the control panel and they report all is well. My volume has not been muted. Tried to play a CD but no joy. I have a Windows 7 Dell which Is only three months old. I have used the help online from Microsoft but that did not help. So no idea what to do now, any ideas please?

plug in headphones. if you still dont hear sound, then its a broken sound card. since its only 3 months old, its still under warranty. just send it in to Dell and they will fix/diagnose the problem for free. then send it back in a week or 2.

i'd call Dell and find out how you should send them the lappy. or take it to a shop and see if they could help ya.

Check that the default device that Windows is using is correct.

Plug in a set of headphones and check that the sound is playing through them.

If neither of these resolve it, take it to the shop you got it from and ask that it be repaired.

Click on the soundcard Icon on the taskbar & check the settings are not on mute

Delete the sound card in device manager and reboot, device manager can be found if you right click on my computer and go to properties then device manager. This should reinstall your driver.
