"Compound" means "Consisting of more than one". For example, a compound sentence is two simple sentences joined together with a conjunction. Example: "I like cookies, and I like cake". "I like cookies" is one sentence. "I like cake" is another sentence. They are joined together with the conjunction "and". Compound can be used for anything like that. For instance: an iPhone. E-mail is one source of communication. Calling/texting is another form of communication. Therefore, an iPhone is a compound communication device. Ecetera.
