As "The Angry Infidel" up there noted, as you yourself said, Christians did not invent Christmas. Vegans, however, had nothing to do with it, though I'm sure you probably already knew that.

Christmas began as the pagan holiday festival of Saturnalia, in which the Romans celebrated the rebirth of the sun and also dedicated the holiday to the agriculture god Saturn. Notice its nearness to December 21st, the winter solstice, when the days start getting longer again, hence the "rebirth" of the sun.

Those Romans celebrated the festival by getting drunk and then going door-to-door singing (their version of caroling) and exchanging gifts, then they would go to each others' homes for feasting and getting themselves plastered all over again, and then they would finish the night out in homosexual orgies. Not exactly how the God of the Bible (Jehovah--Psalms 83:18 in the Old King James Version) nor Jesus would want to be remembered, right?

Later other traditions were added from other pagan beliefs. For example, the Christmas tree and door wreath traditions began with Wiccan (witches) and Druidic beliefs. Despite what most people are told, these faiths do not worship Satan, but rather are earth religions. What that means is that they believe spirits inhabit the world around us, existing in things like animals, rocks, lakes and rivers, and for our discussion--trees. They noticed that evergreen trees survived harsh winters, and by extension believed there were powerful spirits within those trees. So they would bring the trees into their homes, decorate the trees to make the spirit within it happy, and hope that in its happiness the spirit would protect the home. The wreaths handled the doors, the trees handled everything inside.

Christmas has nothing to do with true Christianity, and in fact adopts numerous traditions that go against Christianity (drunkenness, paganism, and the worship of spirits other than Jehovah).

Christmas is a pagan holiday about solar worship. December twenty fifth is just like July four; the time correct after the solstice that the trade within the days began to end up seen. Jesus is still who I have a good time but the day is celebrated in the Satanic u.S.A. For different explanations.

    Confused, you are.

Christmas is a Pagan holiday. Christians had to adopt it to placate the Pagans when they converted them to Christianity. Same with Easter.

It's the pagans who gave the Christians so many ideas.:)

@ The Angry Infidel. The Date may be the same as the Pagan festival but the Christian practices are not. The Tree and all the commercial practices are not Christian in origin they were added on later.

Come on over here and have a seat; a nice ice pack for your head, and a dose of these pretty little pink pills will take care of your confusion, so just relax.

As with many of the 'Christian' holidays, it was stolen from another religion as they attempted to persuade that religion that they were actually Christians.

    lolwut, but true.
