Yes actually, the kana are very easy. They are only 46 basic kana in each set.

In 15 minutes you can write out each one 5 times. Do that once a day, and in 14 days you'll have them memorized.

I think it is like studying for a test in school. I have been studying Japanese off and on for over 40 years and five years or maybe ten years in I still had trouble remembering how to write all the katakana. Once you start with Japanese it takes a commitment because you can only learn so many Kanji before you start forgetting the ones you learned at first. So you need to review them constantly or have some use for Japanese writing in your daily life. Otherwise, I don't see the point to putting in the time needed to learn the writing.

So you could do it for a lark. But, if you are serious about learning Japanese then you have to do something more than that.

You can do it easily in under a week, 4 - 6 days, if you care to dedicate enough time to it each day. What a great summer challenge!
