is their an alternative for rice wine when making sushi?

I'm gunna make some sushi a little later but nowhere close sells it. Would normal white vinegar or white wine vinegar work making the sticky rice? Or is their another alternative?

Thanks in advanced =D

Yeah, I always use white vinegar.

The key is though, you really need short grained rice, and need to thoroughly wash it before cooking.

The other are right, when I worked in the far north of Canada, were they do not have many Asian grocery's or stores that sell there product, I made sushi rice for the service for use with local fish and wild meat, if you would prefer, us the rice vinegar like other, I made it by combining regular white vinegar, sugar and white wine, and warmed it, the wine is optional, rice wine vinegar is fine just with the sugar, there is the seasoned cooking wines at the store you can use if your not able to buy wine, but they have salt, regular Chinese style rice vinegar works to.

Use rice vinegar - look for it in the asian food section of your grocery. Rice vinegar is a little sweeter & milder than other vinegars, so if you can't find it, try diluting white wine or white or apple cider vinegar with water (3 parts vinegar to 1 part water) & adding a tiny bit of sugar.
