Almost 40 and never held a car licence - Can I go straight for practical without lessons/hours ?

I've held a motorcycle licence for roughly 22 years, but never went for a car licence. I can drive manual transmission cars quite easily and have extensive road safety knowledge.

If I can pass the practical driving test with flying colors, do I still need to pay for lessons and have many hours experience ?

You DO NOT have to. It would be prudent to at least take a short course.

The world does not come to a standstill if you fail your car drivers test. It just costs you more money and time to take the test again.

You will need to pay to take the written test first and then yu can take the driving test. It doesn't matter how old you are.
