Why do you need to be 18 to get a CDL (it should be 16)?

I’m 17, I won’t be 18 until December :(

Hope that it stays there until you get yours (as there is talk of pushing it up to 19 or 21)  That is the Law.

I think drivers should get CDL's after age 21.

Because you have to be a legal adult to get a job with a CDL. It should not be 16!

Because until you're not yet of the age of majority. That means you can't enter contracts until you're 18, something that's required to operate commercially. That also means that you can't be found civilly liable, like if you're at fault for killing someone while driving commercially, meaning your parents would be liable if you were at fault for, say, plowing the semi you were driving into a grocery store, responsible for the damage to the semi, responsible for all the damaged cargo, responsible for the damage to the store, and responsible for all the deaths and injuries you caused.

I’m sorry, but minors have absolutely no business driving those big 18-wheelers. The minimum age of 18 is perfect for trucks, buses, and tractor-trailers. You need a lot more responsibility and advanced skills in driving those things.
