  • Is it possible to use a Freeview digital TV recorder (hard drive) with a separate digital DVD recorder?

I'm thinking of getting a Freeview DVR. Ultimately I'd like to be able to record programmes on DVD, but it's not something that I'm desperate for at the moment, so I'd be happy to go for the cheaper option of a DVR for now and then maybe add a DVD recorder later on. However, I've read conflicting info on the net about whether or not it's possible to connect two separate devices together. Does anyone know whether it would be possible to record on a DVD recorder from a separate DVR? If it is, do you know what connectors must be on the devices in order to do this? Thank you so much! I realise this kind of question must have been asked a million times but I had a quick look in the past questions and I didn't find an answer. Thanks!

  • 'Leukocyte' or 'leucocyte' in British English?

I'm doing a project on leukaemia and have found two spellings of the word 'leukocyte'. Some sources claim the 'leucocyte' spelling is mainly British, but I've found both spellings in British texts and have no idea which to choose. I have a similar problem with 'leukopenia' v. 'leucopenia'. Can anyone tell me which is the most commonly-used spelling in British English please? Thank you!

  • Brauche ich deutsche Krankenversicherung?

    Hallo,

  • Do I need to take out health insurance in Germany?

    Hello,

I'm English and I'm currently doing a 5-month voluntary work placement in Germany. I did a 6-month work placement in Germany about 2 years ago, but that was a compulsory placement (it was part of my university course in England). My employer at the time accepted my European Health Insurance Card as proof of being insured, but my current employer has told me I need to take out health insurance in Germany, as this is a voluntary work placement. If it were a compulsory placement, my EHIC would be fine. Does anyone know if it's true that I need German health insurance? Thank you for any help.

  • Which translation work experience placement should I choose?

I'm a final-year languages & translating and interpreting studies student. I spent my year abroad working as a translator for companies in France (sports retailer) & Germany (manufacturer of speech aids for laryngectomees) and I plan to spend my next year doing another work placement in Germany, which is being organised by my university. I want to do an MA in translating afterwards, with a view to becoming a translator in the future. My problem is that I've been offered the choice of two different work placements for next year. Translation is a major part of both placements, although they also involve general office work. The first company is a German media company, which would give me the opportunity to do something different & interesting, plus I'm unlikely ever to have the opportunity to work for a TV company again.

  • What is the British governement doing to stop climate change?

I have to do a presentation for my university course where I compare the French and British goverments' plans to tackle climate change. I've found information about the British goverment's policies (http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/climatechange/... but so far all I've managed to find is waffle about what they INTEND to do. Does anyone know what measures are actually being taken?

  • UK TV Advert aimed at children?

As part of my uni work, I have to watch a children's advert on TV to see what kinds of tactics the advertisers use to sell the product. However, I'm having trouble finding an advert aimed at children. Can anyone help me think of one please? Most of the products that I can think of, such as Frosties or Birdseye fish fingers, don't seem to have been advertised on TV for a long time. Even McDonald's adverts seem pretty scarce these days. If anyone can help me, that'd be brilliant. Thank you.

  • Ironic or ironical?

I always thought the word was 'ironic', but recently I've heard a lot of people using 'ironical'. It sounds wrong to me, but I was wondering if it's a real word and if anyone knows why people suddenly seem to have adopted it?
