  • Double entry on credit file?

Hi, in the past I was stupid enough to go over my overdraft limit and I left the bank owing £2k. I'm now putting my affairs in order and I've checked my credit report. It shows that £2k has been marked on my credit file by the bank as 3 missed payments up to 2012. There is then a separate entry by a debt collection company showing that same £2k is in default. Neither debt is showing satisfied/settled.

Am I right in thinking that one of these entries needs to be removed/updated?

  • LCD TV problem?

    Hi. I have a 42 " LG LCD TV (42LG7000).

I have no picture and no sound. The TV will switch on and the standby light goes out and leaves a solid blue light as if it's working fine.

The backlight does not come on, nor is there any picture when looking at the screen in a dark room using a torch. When I press the buttons on the side of the TV they beep as if they're working fine but still nothing.

I've tested the power supply and all voltages are reading as they should, to both to the inverter and the main board.

Is there an expert out there who could help me diagnose this further?

  • CD player skipping/makes CDs sound scratched?

My Pure DMX-20 DAB/CD player has developed a fault. Initially it would fail to read CDs and for a while it wasn't used.

I've recently tried again and the problem was far worse and skipped most of the time. Anyway, I've cleaned the lens using isopropyl and a cotton bud. I've also taken it apart and cleaned and re-greased the gears and the cd sled with ceramic grease.

This has fixed 95% of the problem but every couple of songs or so it will sound like a vinyl record with a scratch. Either that or it will completely lose where it's up to and restart.

Is there anything else you can suggest or is it time to give up?

  • Has social media affected how we view the army? (UK only please)?

There seems to be a definite shift in the general public opinion of the armed forces. Every day I see something on Facebook or Twitter, saying how wonderful all servicemen are and how they are being killed because of the stupid government.

However in my living memory it is clear to me and anyone with half a brain that if you join up, you'll have to fight for an unworthy cause. The public want us out of Afghanistan and Iraq but we have to give unwavering reverence to the troops.

Why is this? Surely they knew what they were getting into when they joined up? It's hardly like the government tricked them, as the idiotic invasions have been known about for years.

  • Worried about the future and how my daughter will feel towards me.?

Basically I have a beautiful 9 year old daughter who I dote on. She's a daddy's girl and we really do get on well and always have fun.

Anyway, me and her mum split when she was just under 2. I've seen her a few times a week ever since. My concern is, as she gets older and nears puberty, how will this affect our relationship? I'm worried that no matter what a parent does, most kids will go through spells of disliking them. How long would this normally last and do you have any advice on how to deal with it?

  • Got drunk on Saturday and paranoid since?

Not badly paranoid but just enough uneasiness about how I behaved. Nothing awful I don't think but I did make an **** of myself with a girl. Anyway, how long do you reckon this feeling will last?

  • I tried to kiss my friend's friend and I'm not single?

I know it was a bad thing to do and I'm not proud. However, it's made me think I don't want to be with my girlfriend anymore. Surely this must mean I should dump her?

  • Awkward position wedding invitation.?

Basically I'm male and my best friend is female. She gets married in a few months and asked my girlfriend of 5 years to go to her hen do. My girlfriend has politely declined as she doesn't like large, loud parties and the naked butler they're hiring.

My friend has now told her that she won't be invited to the wedding if she's not going to the hen do. This puts me in an awful position as I think it's a ridiculous decision. I'm basically being forced to decide who's side to be on.

    What can I do?

  • How can I get out of the friend zone?

Hey! I'm currently single and although not the best looking person in the world I do OK. I'm fine chatting to girls in bars and can normally make them laugh and get their numbers etc.

However I have worked with a few girls who have been perfect for me but I only seem able to be their friends. I think I'm that scared of creeping them out if I made a move that I could come across as too jokey but I really don't know.

Can you recommend any adjustments to my behaviour to stop becoming friends? It's really annoying me now!

  • How to stop fantasising about young women in the office?

Basically I'm a 37 year old man and I cannot help falling for young, attractive women. There's a girl in work who is 24 and I'm sure she is flirty with me and overtly friendly. I've convinced myself that it's not true and I'm keeping my distance but how can I be sure?

I desperately want to make a move on her but I'm scared of any repercussions. I'm sick of being like this, I feel childish and foolish.

  • Does anyone agree that Beavis and Butthead was/is awful?

I'm in my mid 30s now and it was popular back in the early 90s. I'm just watching a recent episode and it's as bad as it always was. It is and always has been completely unfunny. Plus the animation is crude and ugly.

    Why was it so popular?

  • Why are TV adverts allowed to be sexist against men?

It's very rare these days for a TV advert to be sexist against women but when they are, they are almost always pulled off air swiftly.

A few years ago there was an advert for an oven cleaner which said "so easy, even a man could do it" which was ruled to be absolutely fine to be aired. Yet I doubt had the tables been turned it would've been ruled as such.

Now there is a new advert for some olive spread which shows a group of old women training a dog to steal a young man's swimming trunks and then they take pictures of him. Imagine that the other way round where a young woman has her bikini stripped from her and then old men take pictures of her. It's mad!

  • Why have fat girls hijacked the word curvy?

Seriously it really grinds my gears. Curvy women can be very, very beautiful and there is nothing wrong with them whatsoever. However there are a lot of fat girls who call themselves curvy, or even voluptuous, when they're just one great big curve - round!

Curvy women, please take your title back and stop women who put butter in their coffee from ruining it for you.

Why can't they just be honest with us and themselves?

  • What would I need to provide to HMRC in order for my tax code to change?

I've recently started a new job and I've come to realise the effect of the non cumulative tax code. This is my 3rd job in the last two tax years and I've only just realised that I was on a non-cumulative tax code both in my current job and also from May 2011 to the end of that tax year.

Is it a case of simply ringing HMRC to adjust the tax code or will they need proof of my older earnings first?

  • My ex employer tried taking me to court in November for an overpayment of wages?

I was dismissed from my job in April 2011, I had my appeal dismissed in June 2011. In January 2012 my ex employer wrote to me asking for £1400 back as I had taken so much leave before my dismissal.

I refused to pay and eventually they attempted to obtain a ccj in November 2012. I lodged a defence stating that their records were inaccurate as I had not taken anywhere near as much time off. I also pointed out that they had 20 days between dismissal and paying me to stop the payment but they didn't. Furthermore the length of time between any alleged overpayment and them contacting me was excessive and detrimental to any defence I could lodge.

Well since then I've heard nothing apart from a letter from the court saying the other party may contact me to clarify details. They haven't contacted me at all.

Does this mean that they can't take me to court anymore? Could they try again for a lesser amount now or has their time passed and it's over?

  • What star sign would you say I am?

I appreciate praise far more than money. I can be quick to anger but it's gone in a flash and I'm quick to apologise if I'm wrong. I am not very good with money but I'd also give my last £1 to someone else if I thought they needed it. I tend not to worry too much about life. I like to have fun and I don't really fully consider the consequences of my actions. I'm never malicious and I like to feel liked.

So which star sign would you say I am? I always choose a best answer so go for it:)

  • How do I stop myself from listing after other women?

I've been with my partner for 5 years now and I really do love her. She's very attractive and we get on great.

So why do I lust after every attractive woman I see? I daren't drink on nights out anymore because I know I'll make a move on someone, when my sober self would never do that. Luckily I'm not very good at making a move and I've never actually done anything with anyone - but the intent was there.

Does this mean she's simply not for me, or is there something I can do to stop?

  • Facebook friends keep posting chain/untrue statements. Should I bother correcting them?

It's getting beyond a joke now. I have a good few friends who keep posting "facts" or sharing pictures of untrue statistics regarding foreigners, MPs etc.

Yes I could remove them or hide their updates but I feel like the nonsense shouldn't be allowed to be thought of as fact and so I have to correct them haha.

Anyway, my question is should I just leave them to it or should I carry on being the voice of reason? Could I be coming across as even more annoying than them by correcting them?

    Echo belly

    Elastica

    Inspiral Carpets
