    is CORN characterized  as a VEGETABLE ?

      WHOLE CORN  as on the cob is  in the catagory of a VEGETABLE

     the INDIVIDUAL CORN "KERNEL" is termed a GRAIN   

    catagory wise CORN is a VEGETABLE , GRAIN and a FRUIT  by definition  because GRAINS are by definition a type of FRUIT  according to popular Science    interesting so as a human Behavior  PEOPLE EAT  the part of a "PLANT" that people label as CORN    so if it not LABELED a vegetable will People stop eating corn   some  might ... A ROSE is a ROSE is a rose it can be a persons name or a name of a flower    or a Color  or a ROSE by any other name would smell as sweet

    Corn is bad to eat.   It takes up way too much land to grow when other food is needed more.

    No. Corn is a grain -- like wheat, oats, rice, rye, etc.  All grains are plants.  Vegetables are also plants -- as are fruits and legumes.

    Yes.  It's a grain, a cereal, a grass.  But it's eaten as a vegetable, and also it belongs to the vegetable kingdom, meaning it's not animal or mineral.
