CAI Golani Sporter barrel wear question?

I own a CAI Golani Sporter (that actually works right) and use tulammo 55gr .223 fmj in it. From what I understand, the Tulammo is a copper over steel jacketed round. What should my barrel life be like shooting mostly tulammo? Should I go ahead and buy an undrilled for gas block IMI galil barrel to have in reserve to replace my current barrel when it wears out?

As corrosive ammunition is becoming more and more rare it plays a small role in barrel wear. Cleaning chemicals now exist to practically nullify its effects. What kills a barrel is heat. This is why the 4000+ fps .22 caliber varmint guns only have a barrel life of less than 5000 rounds. Super high velocities and extended rapid fire are what destroy barrels. So using standard .223 ammo should not cause a velocity issue, but if you go to the range and do not allow it to cool down while firing several magazines through the weapons the damage will begin. The "lans" (raised ridges of the rifling) get red hot and residue starts being scraped off with each round eventually creating a smooth and inaccurate bore. Very few normal gun owners fire enough rounds to cause this issue, so if you are firing a couple of magazines a week you probably could get many years of life out of your weapon.

honestly u shouldn't be able to wear that barrel out in a lifetime of shooting as long as u keep it maintained and cleaned.....

"wearing a barrel out" usually is caused by corrosive ammo and not cleaning it.....tho the gun will still function for the most part just not as accurately...

would say u would need around 200k+ rounds to wear out the barrel rifling...and then it should still be usable to say 400k rounds or so...

At the price of oil per barrel these days, I'd say yes, without a doubt. LOL- you could tell your prospects that you are 'in oil" . Shell, Marathon or what have you! ha!
