  • How do I create separate "windows" in Google Blogger?

I'm trying to set up a blog, which I've never done before and I'm feeling a bit bamboozled... I've set up an account in Google (I don't want to invest any $ at this stage) and have a basic layout set up. However, the "look" I want to achieve for my front page is more of a magazine style, with side windows (not just links) to things like a quote for the day, a photo, a progress chart etc. At the moment, all I can do is set up a link to a separate page. How do I set up a "feed" (or similar) so that the content of the other page shows up on the side of my blog? Thanks for any assistance...

  • Can I use Magnesium Aspartate on my garden?

I have about 100 Magnesium Aspartate tablets (vitamin supplements) which had been sitting at the back of the cupboard and have expired. Meanwhile, some of the plants in my garden are suffering from mild magnesium deficiency (eg. gardenias, lemon tree). I usually use Epsom salts, but was wondering whether I could just sprinkle these tablets around the plants and the magnesium would leach into the soil. Or does Magnesium Aspartate require human metabolism to free up the magnesium for absorption? I'm intending to post this in both Garden and Chemistry...

  • How do I fix my Internet Explorer?

For a few weeks now, Internet Explorer has been "freezing" on me mid-browsing and sending the following pop-up message: "Internet Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Occasionally it will spontaneously start up again after a few minutes, but generally it causes all browser windows to shut down. It's starting to happen more and more frequently and is becoming really annoying. I'm using Google Chrome instead a lot of the time, but as all my favourites etc. are saved in IE, that's a pain too. This problem does not seem to be related to any particular website or type of website. Any suggestions gratefully received...

  • Does the Queen Vote in general elections?

I seem to recall that, as head of state, she is above this and other aspects of citizenship (eg. jury service) - is this true?

How far down the line of succession do you go before someone is expected or permitted to vote? Eg. can Prince Charles and/or Prince William as presumptive future heads of state vote? What about their spouses?

  • Who were the first people to lose their lives on the Titanic?

I mean during the sinking on the night of 14-15 April 1912, not during the construction.

I have recently watched the special "Seconds From Disaster" on the Titanic sinking, and their version was that the first casualties were clerks who returned to the mail rooms to recover mail sacks and were drowned. What is the authority for this information?

I would have thought that some of the engineers, stokers and trimmers located in the front boiler rooms would have been trapped when the hull was initially holed and water flooded in...

Just general interest, thanks for any light you can shed on this...

  • How do you create pop-up information "bubbles" in Word 2010?

I'm just getting to grips with this version of Word and am trying to create a form where users can input information with the assistance of pop up instructions which don't appear in the printed version of the document. I want something that looks like the Comment boxes you can insert into Excel worksheets. I've worked through the relevant (template and forms) sections of Word 2010 Help, but can't find what I'm looking for.

    Thanks for any assistance.

  • How do I stop spammers hijacking my twitter account?

I don't use twitter very often, but I've just been into my account today and discovered that my account has been "tweeting" stuff I didn't send. I stupidly clicked on an ad on the sidebar of Facebook a couple of months back and it seems that variants of the company(ies) running that ad have hijacked my account somehow. Unfortunately, it's a different link they give everytime. I may have entered my webmail account (which I use for my twitter), but definitely not my twitter details. How should I deal with this. Do I need to deactivate my account and start from scratch? (not too much drama to do this, as I have only about a dozen followed/followers) Thanks for suggestions.

  • Remove taste of lubricant grease from coffee machine?

I recently had my LaPavoni Europicola machine serviced. It needed all it's seals replaced and the technician also greased several of the metal pieces in the milk-frothing mechanism. Problem is, now everything that comes out of the machine (water, coffee, milk) smells and tastes like lubricating grease! The machine was serviced by a reputable specialist, so they presumably used food-grade grease (which I thought was supposed to be odourless and tasteless). I've rinsed the machine through with several full cisterns of water, but the nasty taste and smell remains. Any suggestions? (also posted in household maintenance and repairs)

  • Can you move your itunes music folder to an external hard drive?

I'm trying to clear some space on my computer's internal hard drive, and I know my itunes music folder takes up a lot of space. I have successfully moved my whole Windows Media Player library to a folder in my external hard drive and it works successfully (as long as the external hdd is connected). Is there any way to do this with itunes without losing your library (I tried moving the folder once before and lost the lot, which was devastating...). Thanks

  • How can I transfer titles from my Austar (Foxtel) box to DVD?

I've recently upgraded from standard Austar to MyStar (the same as Foxtel IQ), and have recorded several shows from both Austar channels and free-to-air (received via my Austar box). The trouble is, the recording capacity of the Austar box is pretty small and there are a few shows I'd like to keep copies of on DVD (eg. the AFL Grand Final). I need to somehow re-route my Austar signal through my HDD/DVD Recorder. Despite spending several hours swapping plugs around this evening, I haven't been able to work it out. Any suggestions?

  • How do you prune a shrub to a spherical shape?

I have a mature corea (Australian native) shrub, which was really straggly, but I have pruned back into order. There's a main section left, which is healthy and gets good light etc. It is reasonably uniformly filled with foliage, and I'd like to make more of a feature of it by pruning it into a spherical shape of approx 1 metre (3 ft) topiary-style.

What's the best way to prune it to an exact spherical shape?

Just wondering - I have heard both these statements and wondered if they're old wives' tales or genetic reality.

  • How can I get plastic cutting boards back to white?

I want to remove the food discolouration from my standard plastic cutting boards - some of the stains (from carrots, chillis etc.) are very stubborn. I've tried both Baking Soda + Vinegar and soaking in Napisan, but neither really achieved any noteable result. Any tips?

  • How can I recreate the flavour of Key Limes?

I'm making a Key Lime Pie, however I live in Australia and we can't source genuine Key Limes here. Is there anything I can add to Tahitian Lime Juice to approximate the flavour of the real thing?
